Cookie Policy

VIS, Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo Cookie Policy

This website is owned and operated by VIS, Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo, the data controller.

By using this website, you agree to the use of cookies in accordance with this policy. In particular, you accept the use of analytical, advertising, marketing and profiling cookies, functionality for the purposes described below.

If the User accepts profiling cookies, as identified below, these will be added to his/her already existing profile in our databases, if the User has given his/her consent to marketing and profiling activities on the occasion of his/her adhesion to one or more of the initiatives conducted by our site (e.g., for donation actions, to join initiatives).

If the User does not intend to accept the use of cookies for the purposes of analysis, advertising, profiling, he/she can change the setting of his/her browser in the manner described in the section “How to control and delete cookies” of this text (see below).

What are the cookies

Cookies are pieces of information stored on the hard disk of the user’s terminal, sent by the user’s browser to a web server and which relate to network use.

Consequently, they make it possible to learn about the services, sites visited and options manifested by surfing the net. In concrete terms, cookies are small files, containing letters and numbers, which are downloaded to the user’s computer or mobile device when visiting a website.

Cookies are then sent back to the originating site on each subsequent visit, or to another site that recognizes these files. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognize the user’s device.

This information is therefore not provided spontaneously and directly, but leaves a trace of the user’s web surfing.

Cookies perform several functions and allow pages to be navigated efficiently, remember user preferences and, more generally, improve user experience

They can also help to ensure that the advertisements shown during browsing are of interest to the user and that the marketing activities carried out are in accordance with the user’s preferences, avoiding promotional initiatives that are unwelcome or not in line with the user’s needs.

When navigating on a site, the user may also receive on his terminal equipment cookies that are sent by different sites or web servers (so-called ‘third parties’), on which certain elements (e.g., images, maps, sounds, specific links to pages of other domains) present on the site he is visiting may reside.

There may be, therefore, under this profile:

  1. direct cookies, sent directly from this site to the user’s device.
  2. third party cookies, coming from a third party but sent on our behalf. This site uses third party cookies to facilitate the analysis of our website and its usage (as described below).

Furthermore, depending on the purpose for which the cookies are used, they can be divided into:

  1. technical cookies: these are used to enable the transmission of a communication over an electronic communication network or to provide a service expressly requested by the user. They are not used for any other purpose. In the category of technical cookies, whose use does not require the user’s consent, we distinguish:
  • navigation or session cookies: they ensure normal navigation and use of the website (e.g., for authentication and access to reserved areas). The use of these cookies (which are not permanently stored on the user’s device and are automatically deleted when the browser is closed) is strictly limited to the transmission of session identifiers (consisting of random numbers generated by the server) necessary to enable the safe and efficient exploration of the site.
  • analytics cookies: these are only used to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users visiting the site and how they visit it
  • functionality cookies: they allow the user to navigate according to a set of selected criteria (e.g., language or services subscribed to) in order to improve the service provided to the user.
  1. profiling cookies: these are aimed at creating profiles relating to the user and are used to send targeted promotional messages based on the preferences expressed when browsing the web. These cookies can only be used for these purposes with the user’s consent.

How to control or delete cookies

The user has the right to choose whether or not to accept cookies. Below we provide some information on how to exercise this right.

However, please note that if you choose to reject cookies, you may not be able to use all the features of the site and, if you have consented to profiling on other occasions, the communications you receive may not be relevant to your interests.

Please also note that if you choose to manage your cookie preferences, our cookie management tool will still set a technical cookie on your device to enable us to enforce your preferences. Deleting or removing cookies from your device will also remove the preference cookie and you will need to make these choices again.

You can block cookies by changing your browser settings so that cookies cannot be stored on your device. To do this, you must follow the instructions provided by your browser (usually found in the menus under ‘Help’, ‘Tools’ or ‘Edit’).

Deactivating a cookie or a category of cookies does not delete them from the browser. Therefore, this operation must be carried out directly in the browser.

If you want to delete, disable or restore cookies on your computer, you can use the cookie configuration pages provided by any third-party content providers, or through your browser options.

Below is a list of instructions for managing cookies in relation to the most popular browsers:

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari

If you use a mobile device, you should refer to its instruction manual to find out how to manage cookies.

Previously set cookies

If the user has disabled one or more cookies, we will still be able to use the information collected prior to such disabling through preferences. However, from that point onwards, we will stop using the disabled cookies to collect further information.
