My name is Benedict Mensah, a Job Service Officer for Don Bosco Training Institute, Ashaiman -Tema. I have worked as a Job Service Officer for the past five (5) years. As a job service officer with these years of experience in employment services—helping trainees navigate job searches, resume building, interview preparation, and career transitions—connecting trainees to the labour market and guiding them through their skill training journey. These various steps require a very deliberate approach to learning and embracing new skills.
I have had the opportunity to engage in peer review processes with our sister organization, Don Bosco in Senegal, specifically Dakar, Thies and Tambacounda, through the Skilling Eco-Vet project. The experience is not the normal school journal reviews we are used to, but rather structured evaluations where my fellow Job Service officers and the administration colleagues assess each other’s work to foster improvement and ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery within the centre.
Being reviewed was eye-opening. One reviewer noted how my session notes on a trainee’s anxiety around interviews were thorough but could include more tailored resources, like linking to free online sample interviews. It was not a criticism; it was actionable moments that helped me refine my how to efficiently and effectively conduct such sessions well. I implemented it immediately, and in follow-up sessions, the trainees reported feeling more prepared.
